Congratulations to Michael Lyons for his impressive win in the 1973 – 1978 Formula 1 race at Grand Prix Historique Monaco. Driving the ex Rupert Keegan Hesketh 308E Lyons dominated the race, winning by a comfortable 33 seconds and also taking fastest lap.
Chevron Racing are proud to be associated with Michael Lyons success. The Hesketh 308E chassis spent the early months of 2014 at our workshops undergoing a full chassis restoration and it’s good to see young Michael making good use of our efforts!
10 Chevron’s were entered in the 2 litre 1974 – 1978 Formula 3 race which was won by ex F1 Minardi driver Paulo Barilla in his B34.
Tupper Robinson raced Andy Storer’s B38. Andy spent the winter with us at Chevron Racing preparing the car for the 2014 season.
Unlike modern F3, the 1970’s version features many different manufacturers. Barilla led home Valerio Leone in his March 783, Ollie Hancock’s SDC Lola T670 and Stefano Rosina in his interesting Osella F3A. Eje Elgh was busy with F1 commentator duties at the Spanish Grand Prix so driving duties of his B38 was taken over by Tiff Needell. A good start put Needell in the top three on the first lap and after an eventful race Tiff finished 5th.
